What to wear to your family session?

So you're dying to have family photos done but aren't sure what you would wear? You're certainly not alone. So here a few tips to have you looking fabulous!

1. Coordinate but don't get carried away. For my personal family photos we did:
Husband- Navy and white striped polo with nice jeans and boots. Wife(myself)-Navy and white kimono with a white shirt underneath. I also wore a medium sized navy necklace and brown sandals. Daughter- Navy dress with white bow, white necklace and brown sandals.

2. Keep your location in mind. If your session is in a greenhouse full of flowers it's probably best to avoid florals. Don't clash with your surroundings.

3. Speaking of florals. Try to keep it to just 1 or 2 people wearing prints such as floral. If too many people are wearing prints you can clash or be distracting.

4. Keep it simple and make up for it with accessories. Jewelry, scarves and hats make for fun outfits! Just don't overdo it. Keep your accessories timeless.

5. Neon colors are never a good idea. Try to avoid overly bright colors. They tend to not photograph well, and even worse, they can reflect back onto your skin.

6. Avoid large logos. They're distracting.

7. Flowy but not baggy! Long flowy dresses are my absolute favorite to photograph. They photograph well and flatter your body. Baggy clothing can make you look larger than you are so try to avoid wearing too large of clothes.

8. Proper fit. Is the outfit you're thinking of a bit snug? Skip it. Most of the time it's not the camera adding 10 pounds, it's the choice of clothing. Try and pick a shirt or dress with good length. A lot of times your photographer will have you walk or being silly in photos so choosing a little length will help prevent showing skin.

9. Ask your photographer. Don't be afraid to send pictures of outfit ideas and have your photographer weigh in. We love it when you do that actually.
